Memories of Huckleberry Hound
Oh sweet Huckleberry Hound (Huck, Huckles, Huckle Buckles, Sniddles, Nid-Nids), we called you so many names and you responded to all of them. The first time I saw you, PAL had an adoption event at Scrub-A-Dub Doggie. You were adopted by someone but then returned. After that, I went up to North Cliff Kennels to pick you up and was going to foster you in January 2004 and couldn't let you go, so we adopted you in February 2004. PAL thought you were about 2 years old. You were a loud guy and always made your presence known. You howled like crazy when it was 'din-din' time and treat time before bed each night. You would go nuts after the cats ate there din-din and had to lick the bowls and clean them for mommy. You accepted all the dogs I brought home, even the fosters. You were my shadow and had to be everywhere I was. You loved coming to work with me then take our walk around the block about once-a-month. You loved going 'bye-bye's in the car and especially loved it if we stopped at McDonald's, Wendy's or DQ. You had so many health issues for a while, but you were a tough doggie. I called you my 'Hot Mess.' You came to work with me that Friday, 5/8/15 and you had some trouble breathing for a few days, and I assumed it was your heart/lungs as you were on meds for that. At dinner time when you got up making that awful noise and struggling to breathe, I knew something was terribly wrong. Daddy and I had to take you where I formerly worked, and an x-ray showed your tummy partially twisted and you had a temperature of 106. It was not good, and we sadly had to let you go as you were suffering. That night was so hard for mommy. I hope all your furry nieces/nephews, grandma, grandpa, and nanny greeted you at the bridge. We will miss you so much. Run free sweet boy, until we meet again. We love you very much!

Love,

Mommy, Daddy, and all your furry nieces/nephews

6/8/15- Oh Huckles, one month ago this night we lost you. Dexter and Oliver have taken over licking of the cat bowls and Dexter seems to be howling twice as much to make up for yours. I hope you are settling in your new home and loving it there. I hope everyone is with you. We miss you sweet boy. Rune free!

5/8/16 - Dear Sweet Huckles, one year ago this night we lost you. Dexter, Jesse, and Toby now lick the cat bowls. Dexter now has some health issues and mommy is doing all she can to help him. I hope you are together with everyone else. We lost so many babies. I hope you greeted Spunky and Pop-Pop at the bridge. You had such a presence about you. Dexter now hangs out in the living room with me. I don't know how your tummy partially twisted. That was an awful night to see you like that. In spite of all your health issues, you still lived a long happy life, and I'm so glad of that. Run free sweet boy, we love you very much and miss that loud special howl you had.

Love,

Mommy, Daddy, and all your furry nieces/nephews

5/8/17 - Huckle Buckle, boy do I miss you doing that dance with your tail going around like a propeller. You were such a happy boy. I still don't understand what happened that day. Mommy and Daddy got lazy with the cat bowls. We use paper ones now. Poor Dexter's my lil hot mess now but is holding strong. When we brought him home as a pup, you two bonded and it was so cute. I hope you are all together over the Rainbow Bridge and Hannah and Dolly are getting along and Chloe's not picking on poor Buster. Keep everyone in line, my sweet boy. Noel still gets us up early. We will be together again some day. Forever in my heart. Love you so much!

Love,

Mommy, Daddy, and all your furry nieces/nephews
