It's been 3 years and 1 day since I had to say goodbye to you, sweet Isabelle. Yesterday and today have been sad days -- thinking about you, wondering if your spirit is at rest. I am sure, wherever you are, you are the curious creature you always were. I will never forget how fascinated you were by the local fireworks shows. Or your silly habit of laying on my chest or back when I read at night. You were very much a lap cat, more so than Willie or any of three young monsters I'm living with now. I will always miss you.

I can't believe 5 years have gone by so fast. I still think about you almost every day. Smudge keeps me company today in the same way used to, reading in bed at night, so I like to imagine there's some part of you that's alive in her. Maybe all cats share pieces of the same soul.
