We got Rex on Valentines Day of 1998. He was just about 9 weeks old and he was a little ball of fur! A German Shep pup. He brought us years of happy and joyous memories and his life was cut short. On Halloween of 2001 I noticed he had swollen lymph nodes. Within a week he was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma. We treated Rex with chemo and gave him lots of love. My spouse and I agreed if at any time chemo seemed to be harming him or decreasing his quality of life we would let go. He was only a little less than 4 when diagnosed and we couldn't just let him go. Rex did very well for quite some time but each time remissions were closer and the tumor was getting more and more aggressive. In the amount of just a couple of days Rex's health declined right before our eyes. It was devastating. On the day before Thanksgiving (11/27/02) we had to end his suffering. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my adult life. We knew he would no longer suffer but in the days to come, his mommy and daddy sure did. There wasn't a day for some time that we did not cry or think of Rex. No in a years time there still hasn't been a day without at least a thought of him. He was a wonderful guy whose life was taken too soon. We will always remember the joy he brought us and will always celebrate his life. We miss him and love him still very much.
