ODE TO MY 'BEST FRIEND'
by Inez Young
My heart broke in a dream last night I dremt my little dog,Oscar, was very ill. I held him in my arms; it was so surreal. I whispered softly,"please don't give up the fight." In my dream state he began to speak to me. "I hurt," he said, "I hurt in every limb." He was very weak, his eyes quite dim. Yes, he was in pain, this I could see. You are my child, my companion, How can I give you up? You are such an incredible little pup, You are the ruler of our dominion. I awoke with a start, and rushed to his bed. What would I do if my best friend were dead! Through all the years we've shared together He has given me such love and devotion. His loyalty, his enthusiasm, his exuberant emotion I will forever hold dear, forever treasure. When your pain is too great, and you seek release (only you will be able to tell) It will be with a heavy heart that I bid your farewell, And bid you rest in peace, my furry friend, rest in peace. Postscript: My beloved companion went to his rest July 10, 2004 Age: 15 years, 1 month, and 21 days THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE AND JOY YOU ADDED TO MY LIFE- I WILL MISS YOU
