A Vacant Place
by Kori Werner
Merely an animal, inevitably a friend a part of our family to the very end She was our companion a quiet listener Wrapped up like a daughter and even a sister. Some days we will step over a vacant place where her water dish once held its place And at times we may hesitate when we come through the door For "Juice" to welcome us home once more Some nights we will move our feet so slightly so not to disturb her sleeping soundly But hearts will mend as they always do and a memory will last of our friend so true.
