A Gift From A Friend
by Wayne Trout.........................................
At 1st I didn't consider it this
When I accepted a dog 8 years old
The story of our 3 years together
In a few verses cannot be told
My blind friend became very ill
She could offer her dog to just one
Sally a Lab had worked all her life
But now her work was done
If I had said no she would be retrained
Then continue working til 10
I knew taking an 8 year old
Our time together would too soon end
I would't change my decision
Even knowing and feeling as I do now
As the years went by it was obvious
There was no girl quite like Sal
There was no one she didn't love
To everyone she would show it
Her long black tail always wagging
Her nose nudging you was constant
Everyone who knew her loved Sally too
You could see it and they would tell me
All love is not the same when you get
A call no owner wants to receive
At 10 we found the TCC cancer
In 3 months her life would end
I spent 3 years and 4 months with this
Wonderful Gift From A Friend
I miss you Sally more than you can know
But I'm truly thankful and grateful
For the time I was yours & you were mine
The way you touched my spirit and soul
Some say pets are a reflection
Of their owners in many things they do
But if I could I would change my ways
So I could be more like you
