Everybody loved Maddy
by Rosayn Warwick
Maddy was a bullmastiff. But she was really a guardian angel. She was sent to me in one of my most difficult years. I was alone with my daughter and son. In a state with no family. I had one friend, her name was Lindsey and she along with Maddy kept me sane. My husband was in another state with my other son. We had one year apart. This was so my daughter could finish high school with her school mates and friends. Maddy was the only puppy of 10 that was left. It did not matter. The moment I laid my eyes on her, it was love at first site. Really for both of us. So for her 1st year, she was my constant companion. Both kids were in school. Then we reunited with the rest of our family, moved and started a new life. 3 years later, I was diagnosed with cancer. Maddy along with my other dogs, were there for me night and day. After surgeries, after chemo, they laid next to me and encouraged me to get up. And I did. When I was better, Maddy and I became a pet therapy team at 2 hospitals in Denver. For the next few years we visited humdreds of patients. The very young to the very old loved Maddy. She would climb in bed with patients and just let them love her. I will never forget one 14 year old boy, he requested Maddy. We went up to see him and he asked that she lay with him. Ever so gently did she get in bed with him. For 30 minutes they just laid together. Her great healing energy filling him up. I was in tears the whole time. I went on to become cancer free. But in January she had a tumor in her neck. It took her fast. She stayed on our bed for 2 weeks. Finally a wonderful vet doc came to our house. And on our bed that we shared with Maddy, we put her to sleep. She lost 20 pounds in 4 weeks. No more suffering. But God, how I miss her. My friend told me about Rainbows bridge. So here we are. We just wanted eveyone to know how many Friends, Family and Patients loved her. She truly was a healer. God Bless her. And I know she will be waiting for me when I cross over.
