This past summer, my brother-in-law (Jeff) passed away. For his funeral service, I'd written the eulogy and included a copy of Rainbow Bridge referencing "Yeti" who was lost a few years earlier. I'd explained how Yeti was always trying to give even more love and loyalty than would ever be possible. Jeff was heartbroken at Yeti's passing when it happened.
The Eulogy ended with Rainbow Bridge and how Yeti must be waiting for Jeff to take him home this one last time. After the reading, nearly everyone at the service was touched and affected with knowing that Jeff wouldn't be alone in his new place. After the reading, the service ended and many people left the church to collect themselves outside. Above, in the sky, was a full rainbow.
I like to believe that it was given to us as a matter of proof that the poem isn't just a poem but a truth. That Yeti did in fact wait all that time with a leash for his master to take hold of once again. To finally go home with the person he'd left behind and loved so much.
Thank You God for the sign, Thank You Jeff and Thank you Yeti for all being a part of my life. Someday I myself will be at that bridge, and if I go before my fur friends, I'll wait for you.
