It was spring the year I brought you home
A shy unsure young girl
I knew if I got through your shell
inside I'd find a pearl.
The summer of our intwined lives
saw both of us grow up
I was no longer a nieve child
nor you an untrained pup
We saw falls come we saw them go
We walked many a quiet mile
Through good times yes, and even bad
you could always make me smile
It's winter now your eyes have dimmed
Your bones have grown old
So I'll hold and kiss you one last time
Before your body's cold......
