The Lesson of Love
by Colleen Totero
Tanner was everbody's baby, confidante, friend, and protector. He was blessed with a wonderful 8 years with us and we with him. Tanner could understand foreign languages for the word kiss...it was amazing! His rhythm was soothing and relaxing and his presence kept us glued to him and eachother. He got sick on Good Friday and we found out he had a splenic tumor which bled. No details are necessary because everyone goes through their own path when your friend is sick and dies. What I learned that long night, was to let my dog continue to guide me, somehow he helped me stay focused on just being with him, and our family. My son was visiting and said it best, "Mom, He soldiered through it and we all got to be together." This is the lesson of love...it's about giving. Each day as the wind blows through the kitchen window, the sun shines in one spot on the floor, there is an unexpected feeling of warmth, and even when tears fall, I say to myself, I know you!
