Katrinas Furbabys
by Suzanne Schultz.........................................
On August 29 2005 our life changed forever. We lived in Bay St Louis Ms. We left our home and headed for saftey. Our two furbabys 12 year old Kayla and 10 month old Bump rideing shotgun. For Kayla this was an adventure. For Bump it was a good time to catch up on some long needed sleep. Kayla wanted to hang out the window. Bump wanted to be left alone. We were on the road for 8 hours. Our destination was Thomasville Ga. My husband and I planned to take turns sleeping in the truck with our dogs. God must have been on our side because he lead us to a dog friendly hotel. We were able to keep them in the room with us. By the time we reached our hotel Katrina had destroyed our town. We sat in our hotel and watched in horror at what Katrina had done. Then for a breif moment a camera crew zoomed in on a car that was almost under water. At first I did not see what they were looking at then I saw a small dog tied to the end of a porch. He had made it to the top of the car but that was as far as he could go. If the water rose any more he would drown. I saw for one small second his tail wag until he realized they had not come to save him. How could anyone leave a animal tied up like that. I looked down at Kayla and Bump as they tried to see who could get the most of the blanket. They will never understand that they were some of the lucky ones. They have a family who will never leave them in harms way. We lost everything in Katrina. But we still have each other, our faith in God and family and friends. But our hearts ache for thoes who have no voice, no family and no home. So this Christmas If you can think about giveing a home to one of Katrinas forgotten. Maybe you live to far away to get one left behind. But I know where ever your at some small furbaby needs you.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas. I know Katrinas furbabys are hopeing for one too.
