CoCo Puffs
by Suzanne Schultz.........................................
CoCo who got the nick name of CoCo Puffs came from a shelter. He was five at the time. A small grey poodle who at first did not turn me own. I was in a bad marraige with two small children and needed a dog. My daughter Elizabeth was about 9 at the time and believed anything that came into the house had to play dress up. Poor CoCo had to play dress up so many times I think if he could have talked he would have told me to just shoot him. She even taught him to bance, which he loved to do. I became very sick and CoCo became my angel. He never wanted to leave my side unless the door was open and then he would take of in a dead run. The children would chase him down and bring him home. He would then storm me with kisses and look at me as if to say see I always come back. I got better not well but better. I left my husband and the kids and I moved into a small run down trailor. CoCo was king. My daughter wanted a cat so into our lives came Minnie Cat. My son who was 7 had ADD and ADH and was really haveing trouble at school so I decided to get him a small puppy. Into our life came Kayla. At first CoCo sat on the couch and just looked at Kayla he was not happy. As the years passed Kayla helped Joey to over come his problems. CoCo became more attached to Kayla. Or should I say Kayla became attached to CoCo. I got married again and Kayla and CoCo loved it. Minnie Cat had gone to the Bridge years ago when she ate a dead rat that was poisend. In 2003 CoCo started to go blind and then deaf. Kayla who at first had been a pain to him became his eyes and ears. He would get lost in the house and Kayla would run to find him and bring him back into the liveing room. When he was outside she would only let him go so far before she would guide him back to the house. On the rare times he did get away from her she would come running to me barking her head off, and we would go get him. In Feburary of 2005 I knew with a heavy heart the time had come time to say good bye. The trip to the vets only took a few minutes. Kayla rode with us. I am sure if she knew what was going to happen she would have cried too. At the vets I asked CoCo to forgive me. I feel sure he did because he passed on with great ease. His pain and suffering were over for us it was just beginning. For Kayla it was the hardest because she had never known a day without him. She had been his eyes and ears for so long she did not know what to do without him. She looked all over the house for him for days then came and layed down beside me, she had lost her best friend. A few weeks later I got another puppy and Kayla like CoCo before her was not happy. But with time she has become Bumps teacher. CoCo was 17 years old when he passed away. Kayla is now 12. In time Bump will become Kaylas guide and mourn her passing. Kayals health is failing. Every day we have with her is a blessing. But I know when that time comes She will go to the bridge where she will be met by a dancing grey poodle. Love you much CoCO. Love Mommy
