NO LONGER
(For Sheba)
My sweet little friend,
no longer will I see your sparkling eyes
looking at me with so much love.
No longer will I see
that wagging tail
every time I come into the room.
No longer will you dance for me
when you want a biscuit or a trip outside.
No longer will you jump for joy
when you see me pick up your leash.
No longer will I know
that special kind of love you had for me
that only you and I shared.
No longer will you bound across the bed
snuggling and sighing at days end.
No longer will you be rooting around the pillows
to find that extra soft space
that you had carved out for yourself.
No longer will you retire before me
so you could warm my sheets on cold nights.
No longer will I remember you
without tears falling down my cheeks
because you were my special girl,
my faithful companion,
and my loving friend.
Your Mama
