"Shawnee"
by Karen Paulus
To my Shawnee, We had only had you for 48 hours when you were diagnosed with parvo. I had already bonded with you, so I convinced Don to spend the $500.00 to save your little life. We are both so grateful for that decision. You brought us so much joy! Then when you were 3 years old you had surgery to remove bladder stones. But, ultimately, it was your allergies that took their toll on you. The steroid tablets and injections over the years brought on the Cushings Disease that wore you down. I couldn't look at your thin little body without crying. You were starving to death and could not ever get enough to drink. The morning we decided to end your suffering was the hardest day of our lives. We miss you more than you could know and Shelby is still adjusting to life without her canine pal. We love you so!
