I come to know red when I moved to Florida 2 years ago.He was in the pasture behind my place. One day I found the horse on my back porch eating my flowers. So I went to the neighbors to let them know about there horse, and thats when I met his owner. A real nice old man.well anyhow the guy was looking for someone to horse sit on weekends,so I agreed I would.Well I did that for about 5 months,The horse was easy to care for.Red was old pushing 30 and his age was showing. Well one day while I was babysitting a big storm moved in high winds and down poors with very cold rain, well I took Red to the barn fed him and went home.Well that evening dave the owner came home and went to check on Red because of the storm, but couldnt find him,so he called me and we went searching,we found Red in the woods laying down we tried and tried to get him but couldnt, and by the looks of things Red had been trying to get up for quite awhile because of the all the thrash marks in the mud.Poor Red was out of breath. Finally we called the vet to come out.The net checked Red over and said he needs to get now, we all tried but couldnt.Well the vet said hid temprature and said his body core was to low.Well the vet looked at me with a sad look then turned to Dave and asked him do you really love your horse and Dave said yes and the vet said well its time for him to go now.Because his back was broke and was parilized from the fall.So Dave and I said our fare wells to Old REd and as the vet put him to sleep Red had the most peaceful expression on his face the Dave and I had ever seen on him.
Dave and I gave each other a hug and wiped the tears that were rolling down our faces and put him to rest.Dave and I still go uot to visit his resting site and sit and chat for hours about Red and tell me stories if him when he was younger and we both sit there wuth grins on our faces.Red may be gone but he is still in our hearts to stay for-ever!
