To Milly, with love
by Krista Nichols
Milly was a black and tan miniature daschund and I loved her dearly. She helped me thru many crises in my life including death of family members, divorce, depression, and everyday life struggles. She always had a smile for me.She would literally pull back her lips and smile with her teeth and she would do it when I told her to or when I sang to her the words "Smile, show 'em your pearly whites" featured in a Crest toothpaste commercial. She was a special, loving dog and when she was about four years old, she developed a disc problem in her back which happens a lot to daschunds and we had to have very expensive back surgery done to restore use of her back legs. The surgery failed and we were devastated but the vet said she had enough use of her body to pull herself around or that I could get her a doggy wheelchair and she could peddle with her front legs and her back legs would be on wheels. Well once he had me convinced she could still lead a happy life with no pain due to her injury, I thought everything was going to be okay. But then she developed a neurological problem which caused her to not be able to even use her front legs or hold ger head up straight and I had to put her to sleep because it was so hard on me to work everyday then come home and clean up after her all night and worry about her while at work. Also, I believed that it was no kind of life for her to lay in her urine all day until I could come home and clean it up. So we took her to be put to sleep and I held her the whole time the doctor did it and it was so quick and then my best friend was gone. And eversince there is a big whole in my life and I have been so sad and I miss her so much! She was my baby and I will always love her dearly. And if I get to heaven and I see my sweet Milly running to greet me I will be so grateful to God that I can be with my best friend again. This is in memory of Little Miss Milly. I love you
