The Long Goodbyes
by Meg Castellow
The Long Goodbyes

Four tiny feet
And a once beautiful gray coat
Her big personality
Reduced to ashes in some oak
We’ve all gotten old together
So much so I don’t think
There’s enough time for another
It’ll be over in a blink
No more baby kittens
No more pitter pater
Finally down to one
Down to the last chapter
The house already feels sadder
Friday is the day
To say the sad goodbye
How I wish that you could stay
Please forgive me
If I waited a little long
I never meant to make you
Have to be so strong
Now you’re with others
All the loves of my life
I can hardly wait to see you all
No more long goodbyes
