It Makes A difference
by Sue McEntee
A man was walking down a deserted beach at sunset, as he walked along he saw another man in the distance. As he drew nearer he noticed this man was picking something up and throwing it out into the water, time after time, When he got close enough he saw that it was starfish that had washed up on the beach, and one at a time this man was throwing them back into the ocean. My friend approached the man and asked, what the reasoning was behind this, the man replied, you see all these starfish have been washed ashore by high tide, now the tide has gone out and if they are not returned to the water they shall die here on the beach. I understand said my friend, but don't you realize there are thousands of starfish on this beach, and that there are hundreds of beachs up and down this coast where this is happening, and you couldn't get to all of them, can't you see that you can't possibly make a difference. The man smiled at my friend, bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the ocean, and said...IT MADE A DIFFERENCE TO THAT ONE. We can make this world a better place for our animal friends, even if it means one animal at a time
