by Linda McDowell
SOME THINGS I LEARNED FROM BESSIE  Sometimes things happen to you that you dont understand and dont deserve. Thats just part of life. Besides, most of the time, people are just doing the best they know how, and they dont mean to hurt you. Dont hold a grudge; just go on about your business and do the best you can  Theres always something that needs researching. Check it out!  Stand up for yourself and dont let others intimidate you  Love everybody, and give lots of feathery kisses  Be friendly and wag your tail a lot (smile!)  Forgive everybody  Listen to music  Always have a good reason when you bark  Show appreciation; dance for your supper!  Try always to behave (be the best dog in the house!)  Make people smile, do cute bettern anybody!  Be faithful and loyal, always be there to welcome people home  Whenever somebody is in a bad humor or angry, just keep a low profile, stay quiet, and wait for it to pass  Try not to make a mess, even if it does feel good to soak your feet in a cool bowl of water Even if a dog has had its share of misery in the pastand here is the great lesson we can take from dogsthey somehow manage to overcome the past, to emerge from a time of sorrow with a strange kind of optimism: They wish to love again. They must love again. Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, from Dogs Never Lie About Love
