Mandy

She looked at me as if to ask "Am I dying, Master?" My words were silent as I tried responding to her. I nearly cried To express, the truth I denied So, I patted her head and lied. I cuddled and held her And told her I knew the pain. "Come now. Lay down and rest." Her eyes so innocent and unknowing While mine were red and watery. She looked at me, "So, tell me Master, dear. Why am I still lying here? Why can`t I run and have some fun And chase the squirrles in the warm sun?" "Just rest for now, my little pet. Don`t fear the dark. You`ll soon be well." I held her tiny trembling paw I patted her head so gently and- Her eyes expressed it clear "I`ll always love you, Master dear" Mandy was put away On that November tenth night, She hurts no more, she lost the war, she lost the fight. She`s up in doggy heaven, Shaking toys, playing ball With Sheiba, Asta and other friends, small and tall. I know she's now pain free She's playing safe and sound I know there will always be a bunch of pesky crickets around. Sleep sweet my love. Someday we'll swim again.
