My Regal Gentleman

MEMORIAL TO “GRAMPS” “MY REGAL GENTLEMAN”

I picked you up in Dearborn, Michigan, September 10, 2004. You were to spend one night with me, then continue on to your foster home in Toronto. You had been picked up by animal control and dumped at the pound in upper Michigan. This one night sleep over ended 266 days later, oh how I wish that night was just a little longer. You had no hair on your elbows or back legs from laying in dirt or cement all your life, you had bare spots from burns on your face, how could an animal still be the sweetest, most loving, trusting soul in the world, you were so forgiving.. You were the guy who always had a smile on his face. You were the guy that loved everyone you met along your pathway.

I miss seeing your beautiful eyes looking at me, I miss your funny looking ears when the wind blows them out to the side of your head, I miss all the treats disappearing from the top of the freezer, when I forgot to put them up.

I miss you running into the bedroom when I had your medication out and standing with your head into the wall, thinking you are hiding from me, all 115 lbs. of you. I miss everything about you; you will be in my heart the rest of my life. There will never be another “Gramps” how could god make another more perfect, wonderful animal like you. “I love you Gramps” I know you have no pain now, you are running and playing with all your friends at the bridge, you are the most loved “fella” there, “how could you not?” When a raindrop hits me on my face, I believe it will be you sending me a kiss from the bridge.

I was told there will only be one great dog that comes into your life. “Gramps” “My Regal Gentleman” you were that “one great dog”. I know there will be lots of others, I will love them dearly, but none will ever match my “Gentle Giant.”

You came into my life on September 10, 2004 and went to the bridge June 01, 2005.
