If at all possible
by Belinda Lund
I want to encourage people to let their fury loved ones "go" in their home when possible. There are mobile vets in many places that will come to your home and, though the thought of this seems too hard... think about how much easier it is on your beloved mate who only knows their home as their place of comfort. We're learning to understand and respect this with our 'people' family...what about those fury family loved ones that don't understand, are scared of, or don't like the sterile environment of a hospital. You will never regret this decision if you are ever faced with options. For me, it was the hardest thing I could imagine doing with Mama Cat- I held her on my lap, petting her on 'our couch' as she went to sleep. She didn't have to be put in a carrier, put in the car, and driven to the 'strange' hospital. The only thing she had to deal with was a 'nice stranger' in her house. I actually hope that I'll have this option when my other two 15 yr. old cat 'kids' (Mama Cat's children)time comes. I really don't our last time together being in a car and a strange, scary hospital. I would want this for me and I want it for them. If they don't get to go out on their own I will insist on the opportunity to allow my heart to break while holding them in my arms as the life drains from their little, precious bodies...in THEIR OWN HOME.
