Thumper's Heart
by Leigh Cannady.........................................
Seven years ago my mother was out walking when a beagle started following her. This began my mom's relationship with Thumper, so named for her "thumping" wagging tail. Thumper was apparently a hunting dog at one time, and was now a stray, close to death. She had been shot with buckshot, which had gotten infected and generally in terrible shape. My mom took her home, nursed her back to health and had a wonderful relationship for the past many years. Thumper was the sweetest, best natured dog, with the gentlest spirit, everyone loved her, and she loved everyone. Unfortunately cancer caused my mother to have to make the decision to put Thumper to sleep as she was not longer living a quality life. My mom was devastated! The next morning, however, my mom walked into the kitchen and where Thumper's dog bed had been against the sliding glass window was the perfect shape of a heart made from condensation on the window. It took up 1/4 of the sliding glass door, there was no other condensation on the window, and it lasted from when my mom got up at 6:30 AM until about 12:30PM when is finally started to disintegrate. We truly believe that this was Thumper's way of letting my mom know that she made the right decision and that Thumper was at peace. I just wanted to share this amazing story.
