I remember the first day I saw you as a puppy
You were so rowdy, lovable, and cuddly
I knew I had to have you as my own baby
So I scooped you up and took you to your new home
We were both full of youth's energy and ran around
We didn't have a care in the world
Our love had no boundaries
Over a few years I wasn't as playful
But I would always talk to you and say I love you
When you became sick and were shivering cold
I covered you up with my favorite blanket
You once took care of me, and now it was my turn
When we took you on your last trip to the vet today
My tears I could not wipe away
I didn't want to let you go
My love for you, I hope you know
I'll never forget the look in your eyes
Before you closed them and said good bye
