Sleep Now
Sleep now, Little Girl
Go easy, for when you sleep
You will dream of chocolate treats
And wires you can gnaw.
Bewildered that you can
No longer climb up
To your perch
And look at what
Your bigger relations
Are doing.
Sleep now, Little Girl
Go careful, for when you wake
I will be there to
Carress you and feed you.
Not understanding that the
Tears falling from my eyes
Onto my Hands
Are more than
Just a little water to be
Lapped up.
Sleep now, little Girl
Go cheerful, for when you’re gone
I will miss
Even your bad habits.
Kowing that I have
Given you all the love
Any rat would whish for
I am contended
But sad to know
You won’t be here.
Sleep now, Little Girl
Go peaceful, for when you cross
You will leave all pain behind
And you’ll be free.
Remembering all the adventures
You have had here
Were but a prelude
To what is yet to come.
Farewell and
Sleep now, Little Girl.
