To our dearest Jack,
by Kyle
Dear sweet Jack,

It was May 11th, 2011 when you barged into our day shrieking, squirming, and pawing at your mothers belly as adorably squishy little kittens will do, and between us, it was as beautiful a day as any that one could choose to enter the world, so… you did good!

It was also this day, that our love for you and your brothers and sisters began.

At the time we were living at your grandma’s house. With your grandma, your mom, your Uncle Fenway, Ádúhìl, and all your brothers and sisters- all of us there to love and care for you and see you grow. And you grew so wonderfully.

Too quickly the months passed, and in this time, we chose to keep you and your remaining brothers and sisters for ourselves. It was in part that to our relief, we didn’t know anyone else that wanted kittens, but mostly, it was because you were far too precious to give away.

It was around August, 2012 that we moved into our new place and sadly, you had to remain with your grandma- as we couldn’t take more than your mother and uncle Fenway with us. This was to be the first time we had to say goodbye to you. But, since we weren’t very far- only a few miles away, we were able to watch you grow. And you grew so wonderfully.

It was around January, 2014 when we found ourselves back there at Grandma’s, with all of us under one roof again! How cool was that? Granted by this time, Ziggy had entered the picture and while you didn’t care for her much with her loud noises and her always trying to chase you around, she loved you too. It’s just that she had an annoying (to a cat) way of showing it. Either way, we were reunited and happy to see you again with your brothers and sisters.

This brings us to March, 2017 when we moved to Seattle with your mom and Uncle Fenway. This would be the 2nd to the last time we had to say goodbye to you.

It was March of 2019 when your mom had passed away from liver disease. Words won’t express how devastated we were. She was such an amazing spirit. So playful and happy. I remember vowing never again to have another cat as she was one-of-a-kind. It was also because I truly didn’t think my heart could handle loss like that again.

It’s said that our loved one’s- both human and furry, take a piece of us with them when they pass- it’s like, throughout the lives they share with us- we give a portion of ourselves to them and in return, we lose that portion of ourselves when they pass. Most of the time, this happens so gradually, so naturally, we don’t even notice it happening to begin with. And only in the end, we realize how much it was.

Well, your mom, like you- was so incredibly special to us, that we will never forget. She took a big part of us with her. And she will always be remembered.

It was in October, 2023 when your Uncle Fenway passed away, leaving us again, devastated and heartbroken, only this time- we were alone. Words can’t express the emptiness we felt. He was our family for 15 years. He was there when you were born!

Two weeks later in November, your grandma got sick and could no longer take cared you so Jenny flew down to get you and your sister, and drove you back here to live with us. You came to us when we never even knew how much we needed you. And for over two years, you showed us what it mean to love again.

It was two weeks ago when we had to bring you to the vet because we thought you were getting too skinny and not eating. We were given a treatment plan and stuck with it, but sadly, it wasn’t helping. We were so scared!

It was two days ago that we took you to the ER vet and were told you needed to remain overnight. This was the first night we spent without you since you came back to us.

It was just yesterday that we were told that you were too sick to stay and that you needed to leave us. Carcenomatosis is the name of what took you from us and I will never forget it.

At 3:50PM today, on Tuesday, July 14th we said goodbye to you for the last time.

You gave us SO much at a time when we felt we lost too much. There will never be words to describe how lucky, and honored we have been to have spent these too-few years with you. We will forever miss all those warm lap cuddles. We will forever miss you yelling at us for more scritches. We will forever miss ruffin-time! We will forever miss you.

Jackie…

The gift that you gave, the gift that you are, will never ever be forgotten. And know that wherever it is that you go from here, our love and our tears will be always be within you.

Thank you for everything. We are so lucky to have been able to love you, and just like you- from day one,

It grew so wonderfully.
