Riff

Some times in the hectic pace of life we all seem to travel these days we forget to connect to what really matters, we simply get to caught up or distracted by the noise of the world. I will always clearly remember the first day I came into contact with a cat named Riff. She was dumped like so many other loving pets at a local shelter. Riff had been living at this shelter for a little over a year. I suspect one of the reasons for this was she was a shy cat. I made a connection so quickly with Riff, this kind of connection is difficult to put into words as I know most people who connect with a loving animal would agree, how can mere words describe it? As the road of life presents it's hard turns, rough roads, joys, sorrows, peace it seems the road is so much easily traveled when you have a pet with eyes that can look into your very soul. I belive God put these angels on earth to help us along on this journey. When we get past the worries of materialism, careers, family relationships we begin to truly realize that the most beautiful things in life are always so simple. Every morning I would get up and make that cup of coffee, sit on the couch and contemplate the day ahead of me. Somedays that contemplation was full of lifes worries and others just sort of mellow. But each of these mornings remained the same, Riff would jump up onto the couch curl up next to me and purr. My hand would sink into her fur and I would rub the back of her neck or the top of her head, I would feel the warmth of her next to me. Without even realizing it I felt what worries were there seemed smaller, the mellow feeling even more peaceful. Thank you God for putting this angel in my Life and giving me the time we had together. I dedicate this to Riff and to all the people who know what it is like to make a connection with a pet that has the ability to look into your soul and love you with no conditions attached, how simply beautiful it was.
