Dear Peoples, Mikiko and JellyBean:
A terrible thing happened to our country on September 11 and we have watched television every day. Some bad people stole big airplanes and flew them into big buildings in New York City and Washington, DC. They hurt lots of people and no doubt some of your friends at Rainbows Bridge might be seeing some of their family members this week. A lot of dogs went to help the firemen find people that were hurt. A nice company in Wisconsin made special boots for the dogs to wear to protect their paws ‘cause they had to walk on broken glass and sharp metal. We heard on television that one of the dogs was overcome with smoke/dust inhalation and had to be rushed to the hospital but it was too late. We don’t know his/her name but Mom says for you to be sure and give this particular dog a big Hero’s welcome when he/she arrives at Rainbows Bridge.
Smudge has been singing a lot this past week–mostly The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America. We have all been saying lots of extra prayers even if we don’t entirely understand everything that has happened. Mom and Dad are very sad and all us furbabies are doing what we can to make them happy again.
Well, all five of the eggs hatched and we got to watch Mr. & Mrs. Wren bring them tasty tidbits to eat. (Would you believe that they eat bugs!). Then the little birds learned to fly and we haven’t seen them in quite awhile. Mom is saving her hanging basket with their nest just in case they want to come back for a visit. YOUR CAT, Catarina, has decided that she is really a house cat, however, she does want to go out occasionally. She has learned to love air-conditioning!
The Memory Garden is really looking pretty. The hibiscus and bougainvillea have bloomed all summer. The Pee Gee hydrangeas are still pretty even now that the blossoms are drying a bit. We lost three of the little creeping wintergreen plants but Mom says we will order some more to replace them. We visit the garden everyday when we go out to the mailbox with Mom. The bamboo wind chimes sound soft and sweet and we run under the Oriental arbor to check out all the plants and your bricks. The fountain isn’t finished yet because Mom hit lots of rocks and she is going to have to get a tiller to finish digging the hole. I’ll keep you posted on that.
I guess it’s fall ‘cause lots of leaves are already on the ground. Remember how much fun we used to have playing in the leaves when Mom raked them into a pile and we jumped in the middle and scattered them all over the place! Well, Smudge and I did that yesterday but it wasn’t as much fun ‘cause the pile really wasn’t big enough yet. Fall comes slowly in Alabama.. It will probably be October or November before we get big leaf piles to jump on.
We all miss you and think about you every single day. Must stop for now and send this note by Angel Mail.
Love from all,
Lisa Marie, Secretary
