Last summer, my wifes favorite cat Peanut, became ill, and was subsequently diagnosed with renal failure. We have many cats in our home, but this one was her special one. The only one allowed into the bedroom. Her favorite spot was between the pillows on the bed. My wife had named her Peanut because she loved to eat them. I had never known of any cat liking peanuts, let alone being crazy over them like she was.
Peanut was an all gray short hired cat. Her fur was silky smooth, and she had a tiny white spot on her chest. Her color was similar to a Russian Blue.
About 2 months before Peanuts death, a stray young female cat came around our house. She was also gray, the same color as Peanut, and she also had a white spot on her chest. She was very young (less than a year old) and very pregnant. That was the first coincidence, because although weve fed and cared for strays for over 27 years, this was the first gray stray cat since Peanut, 10 years earlier, that had showed up at our house. We fed her, and cared for her, and she subsequently had her litter in our yard (well hidden). It turns out she had a litter of 5 boys. 2 were black and 3 were gray, and they all had that little white spot on their chest.
We lost Peanut in the meantime, and my wife was heartbroken, but against my better judgement, we decided to try to bring the new cat into our house, mainly because we didnt want her hunting songbirds in our yard. The FIRST TIME that she came into the house, she ran to the bedroom door and cried to get in. That was spooky enough, but when we opened the door and let her go in, she ran to the bed, jumped up, and curled up in Peanuts favorite spot, and stayed there. Its now the place where she spends most of her days. My wife and I just looked at each other in disbelief. We named her Minnie, because she was so tiny, and had these huge ears, she looked like a giant mouse. The coincidences continue..Minnie has the same identical personality of Peanut. So similar, its downright spooky. Peanut had a habit of reaching out to touch my wifes lips with her paw, you guessed it, Minnie does the same thing. Later after we caught and tamed the kittens, we tried to find homes for them. We found good homes for the black ones immediately, but we werent so lucky for the three gray ones. We now had a family of new cats in our home, and they get along super with our established cats. We named them Manny, Moe and Crash. Crash is the runt of the litter, and as his name implies, was so active, he crashed into everything. Two months ago, another coincidence happened. We were feeding peanuts to some squirrels, when Manny started crying and acting up. It turns out hed been eating the peanuts that wed had out for the squirrels, and was asking for more, because hed run out.
Today, all three boys eat peanuts, with Manny still being the worst. Our vet has said it wont hurt them to eat one or two a day. So now, we have to keep a lid on the peanut can.
