Keri & casper
by Donna Henke
16 years ago my niece, another girl friend & I moved into an old farm house together, We were all single and it was a great place to share a home in. One of our first thoughts together was to get a dog. My friends parents new of an abused puppy across the street from them. My niece and her boyfriend went and stoled that puppy that very night. She was 3 months old, very malnourished, bloated, full of worms and had more fleas on her than any of us had ever seen on a dog. We named her Keri, took her to the vet and from then on she was the Queen. A beutiful dobe\shepard mix who was smart, and very sweet. About a month after we had gotten her, she was tied up in the backyard. We went out to get her and she was dragging a skinny, dirty, nasty little white kiiten around the yard. (She was not hurting the kitten, she was only playing). We took him in, named him Casper, took him to the vet, cleaned him up and he became mine. Ten days ago my niece put Keri to sleep after a long battle with severe arthritis. Last night I had to put Casper asleep due to complications of old age. They grew up together in life, and crossed the rainbow bridge together in death. We will soon be having a small ceramony to scatter or bury their ashes together forever. These 2 animals were deeply loved and have been apart of my whole family for the last 16 years. They will both be missed so very much. All of us still have other animals but none will ever replace Keri or Casper in our hearts. They were 2 of a kind and loved each other very much. They will be missed.
