Well let see Cassie was a lab mix. When we first decided to get a pet we both agreed that we would get a lab but disagreed on the sex , while I wanted a male my husband wanted a female . We had both had dogs while growing up and living at home so our opions differd on which sex would make a better pet.We went to get our first pet , we called on an ad in the newspaper and went to look at the pups . There were so many cute little black balls of fur running around I didn't know how we could possibly choose. I was looking at a big beautiful black male while my husband looked on uncertain not really sure if he wanted a male or not and there on his foot was this little black female, she had just peed all over his new pair of tenny shoes so Phill (my hubby) picks her up and anounces that this is the one we will take home. I am so glad we did. We had cassie for 14years. She helped with our 3 children ,she was an excellent babysitter and companion , She was great! We had to have her put to sleep in April of 2001 due to cancer , 4 1/2 years earlier she was diagnosed with it and we were told she would only have maybe 6 months to a year at most before we would lose her , well 4 1/2 years later by accident she nipped my youngest child while taking a treat from her hands , she didn't hurt the child but I guess to Cassie it was unforgiveable because she refused to take her meds the next couple of days and mind you she was an old girl anyways so she had been going down hill but still seemed fine.When she refused to take her meds. she had also stopped eating and 3 days later she was so bad that she couldn't control her bladder or even walk out the back door to go to the bathroom so we took her in. We were told that she had just given upand it would be for the best. It was so hard to say good-bye to her she was my first child , my baby. I miss her still. There are times when I can feel her near by and know she is waiting for us to join her. We have other fur babies 1 dashound who is 11 ,1 lab mix we got from the pound who is now 2 ,a little chewy who is 4, a kitty who thinks it is a dog thats 1 , 2 ferrets and a bird all we resuced in one way or another. I would have more if my hubby would let me. There are so many at the shelters that need homes. Thank you for reading I know it was long and yet there is so much more I could say.
