Bailey and the Crickets
by George Walker
The first fall we had Bailey in our home, when the weather turned cold, Bailey brought crickets into our garage every time he went outside. The first time he caught crickets in the yard, I thought he was eating them. Much to my surprise, when he came inside and opened his mouth, out hopped two crickets. Bailey did this every time he went outside for several days until our garage was full of crickets. That fall our garage was filled with cricket song. It was like Bailey had saved crickets from the cold. This fall when the weather turned cold, Bailey despite being blind since last May, brought in crickets. He found them in the yard once again. The morning of Bailey's passing at the age of 15 at the Veterinary Care Center we returned home and saw a cricket in the garage. A cricket in December.
