Tika, the Snow Bengal
by Candice Denoo
Our beloved cat Tika, who is only 1 1/2 years old, was diagnosed with feline leukemia in December 2000. I had such a difficult time dealing with this, as I was 6 months pregnant, and mourned my eventual loss of her. She seemed to go into "remision" for a few months, and had some pep. She would play with her "brother" Kita (also a Bengal cat), watch the birdies outside, and play mousie. She somehow managed to stick around and see our son who was born 6 weeks ago. Since then, she has gotten worse. I'm convinced that she waited to see him. It has been a VERY difficult decision, but we are going to be put her down in two days. We are having a very hard time with this decision, but know it is best for her. She urinates around the house, vomits, and is reduced to skin and bones. It sometimes makes me think I waited too long, but it happens so gradually and I was clinging onto HOPE. Hoping that she would again go into remision. She is disoriented and stares at the wall. I can't imagine she is enjoying her life anymore, and therefore need to make this huge step. We are going to miss her so much!! Thank goodness for this site!
