My Wish
by Lori Denker
My Wish Behr and his brother Mau have been my best feline friends and companions since 1990. I adopted them in my final year as a teenager just having left my home state of Indiana to land in Hollywood, CA. They are a true blessing in my life and have been right by my side through all of lifes journeys thus far. Including a 4-day cross county drive with all my belongings in tow, to return to Indiana just over a year ago. It was a great pleasure to see two 13-year old city cats getting to be in the great outdoors and experiencing snow for the very first time. I am happy that they get to explore the many pleasures of being outside and chasing squirrels and birds and such. I am grateful that my hometown became a part of their experience while visiting planet earth. In August of last year, Behr became very ill. I asked if he would be willing to stay around awhile longer because I was not ready to be here without him. He made it very clear to me that he was ready to move on. I had to accept his wish with as much grace as possible so that he would know that I supported him. It was very difficult to do and I learned many lessons on the way. When Behr had made it clear that he was ready to go, there was only one thing that I asked for him to do for me; to please keep in touch by visiting me in my dreams. And he does. He has different moods and behaviors when he visits, mostly he likes to be chased or held tightly in my arms. When I wake from his visits I thank him and ask him to please come back soon, and he always does. Behr has given me many gifts in my life and many lessons have been learned from our relationship. I miss him here, but I am grateful that our relationship gets to continue to in a new form. And I thank you Behr for honoring my wish.
