Sammy was a 15 1/2 year old sheltie who we had to send to the Rainbow Bridge last night, 8/19/01. I know that 15 years seems like a long time to have a beloved pet, but it seems much too short now. He had cancer and received chemotherapy treatments for over a year. Then he developed a brain lesion a began having seizures. Sammy had countless trips to the vet and handled each one with dignity and courage. He was the best pet we've ever had and he touched the lives of many people. He won't be forgotten. In his younger days he impressed anyone who met him with his intelligence and loyalty. If we were upset he tried to comfort us. In his final hours, as hard as it was to send him to the Rainbow Bridge, we knew it was the last thing we could do for Sammy after all the unselfish, loving years he gave us. We will forge on through our tears and hope that the pain subsides a little over time. It is a comfort to know he is not suffering any longer. Any prayers for Sammy are appreciated.
