A year since we let you go
by Dan LaRose.........................................
On October 26 our beloved friend and companion was put to rest. Hooch
was a boxer we had for thirteen and a half years. Hooch became known
as the Gentle Giant. Everyone who met him was awed by his size yet he would win them over with his gentleness. As Hooch aged we knew
there would come time when we would have to make that fateful decision. We were told, Hooch will tell you when it is time. He did. During his last days we would care for him morning and night.
After feeding and taking him outside we would lay with him on the floor and make him as comfortable as we could. Hooch would lick us
as if to say, thank you. One morning, after feeding and taking him
outside, I laid on the floor with him. He did not lick me but looked
at me as if he was going to say something, then he turned turned his
head away. It was if he was letting go. I knew then it was time.
Hooch had a good life. He touhed a lot of peoples hearts. We had
hooch cremated and he is back with us. We have a life size statue
of him. At the base of the statue we have hooch, his favorite toys and a candle that we burn almost every night. Yes, time does heal. But hooch will never be forgotten. A day does not pass that we do not
think about him. I have a little saying that I keep "CRY NOT FOR ME. FOR I AM FREE". Hooch is free, waiting for us at Rainbow Bridge.
HOOCH, MOM AND DAD MISS YOU, GOD BLESS.
