Baxter who inspired us all
by Ron and Kathy Coats
Baxter She was born a small cockapoo, and given to a family. The man loved her but he was rarely home as he worked away most of the time. The woman didn't like her so she was left outside to rumage through what ever she could find. They had a small son who would kick her and grab at her. She found a way to climb a chain link fence one day and found her freedom but every day she would go back to her home in the backyard. Then she found a very kind lady, my mother in law, who lived next door. Everyday at sunset they would sit together on her front porch loving the attention they gave to each other. One night at 9:00pm my mother in law, Eloise, called me and said, " they are going to give Baxter away to a shelter, will you take her?" I was in my bed clothes but ran to the car and rushed over to bring her to her new home, with two other dogs and a husband. We love her very much and she has out lived our other dogs now. She is 20 years old, 140 in dogs years and still runs when she can. Her eyes brighten when the both of us are here and when one is gone she lays beside the door waiting for that one to come home. She is now in Congestive heart failure and is on medication to keep her comfortable, although she still runs and still wags her tail, her bladder is slowly giving way. She is in no pain so we spoil her with whatever she wants till her time is up. I know my mother in law is waiting there for her and I am sure Baxter while missing us will be very comfortable with Eloise when she goes to the Rainbow. I have seen the scenery at Rainbow Bridge in my dreams, and I can say there is nothing more beautiful than that. It is gorgeous to say the least. Baxter will be happy and she will get to see her other brothers and sisters there when she goes. We will miss her terrible as she is our last dog here. I remember when Benjiman passed, Baxter cried so hard with me, but we mended knowing that one day we will all be together once more, as we should be among the clouds and love of our father. We love you Baxter and will miss you but know the time is coming soon for you to leave us for awhile. May love follow you and keep you till we meet again. Kathy Coats
