Until We Meet Again, K.C.
by Donna Chirash-Templeman
You came to me, one warm fall day, A gift you were, and so you'd stay. You sat there scared and stared at me, Then wagged your tail so I could see That you knew I'd love and care for you Today, tomorrow, forever too. I fed you bathed you held you tight I sang to you into the night I played with you and gave you toys I sheltered you from thundering noise. For here is where our lives began Best friends in life, "best friend to man". We drove about the countryside, State to state we'd drive and drive. You'd love to sit behind my seat With windows down, breeze soft and sweet. You'd smile wide with ears pinned back Waiting for me to share a snack. You saved my life one dark cold night 'Twas a moment for me of terror and fright. But a babe you were, though big and strong, You refused to let me be victim to harm. You chased that demon far away To safety I went and there you stayed. And when you knew I was safe and sound You turned and wagged your tail around. You ran to me with floppy ears And I held you tight and felt no fear Because that night I knew at last From God you came across my path. You comforted me when I was alone You made me laugh when I cried at home. You helped me sleep through pains of labor And know you never fell from my favor We took care of each other through thick and thin And it saddens me this battle I cannot win I cannot make you well my friend I cannot make you young again But I can remember all you did And one day I will find you on Rainbows Bridge Someday when I have lost the fight We'll be together and it will be all right. So close your eyes and sleep and dream I'll hold you tight until what seems To be in your sight a big field of love, Where you'll be met by friends above, Who've waited long to play with you Jessie, Tasha, Tara, Cindy, Jamie, and Turbo too And at that time you'll hear them say Join us K.C. until the day When mommy comes to take Tasha, Turbo, and you home Through Heaven's gates she'll walk not alone God gave to her these pets to love Now together, forever, as promised from above.
