My Oye Baby
by Nancy Cheney
Oye was such a good dog.She was a pure bred Aussie who had a world of problems.Noone who showed dogs would have given a plug nickle for her.She was the "wrong" color and her eyes were a mess, all kinds of doggie wrongness. But she was my buddy.Did I care if her coloring was wrong? No,her fur was soft and she loved to have me pet her.Did I care if her eyes weren't right? No,she looked at me w/ those funky blue eyes and I knew she loved me.She was my baby for almost 10 yrs. Then she got sick. The doctors couldnt figure out why she was still alive.Apparently the things that were wrong were almost balancing ea other out and she lived for 2 more months after we brought her home from the vet.But one day I came down in the morning and she couldn't stand. Her back legs had finally given up.We knew she wasnt happy. She looked so embarrassed and ashamed when my friend carried her outside and tried to hold her up while she did her business. We knew this was the end we had been dreading for 2 months. So with tears in our eyes we got her to the vet and told them it was time to take her to the Bridge to wait for us.I will never forget the last sight I had of her ,over 4 yrs now, seems like yesterday. She lay on the floor of the examining room cuz they coouldnt get her on the table and she just looked at me with those goofy blue eyes,as if to say "mommy it's ok.I know why youre doing this and I still love you. This is becuz you love me and you don't want me to be sad and hurting anymore"I know my Oye is waiting for meto come see her @ Rainbows Bridge someday. In the mean time shes happy and eating from all the trash bins she wants and noone is telling her "NO".I love you Oye.
