For Bear
by BJ Cantu
Oh, Bear Bud - it's been a year and even now miss you terribly. I'm on my way to the memorial park to visit you and it still feels like yesterday. I know you're at peace; I know you're happy and have found new friends; I know you're looking out for me, but sometimes it just doesn't help. You were such a rock, such a stoic, such a great companion and source of comfort, even when you were not feeling well. I was so lucky to have found you, and we certainly enjoyed our time together. I hope by now you have found Rusty, Duke, and Dasha. They're a great group and can help you pass the time. I have some sad news, though - Heidi is on her way to you as well. You remember her - she's Gram's white fur ball - one bite and she's gone! She went unexpectedly on March 3rd, and isn't used to being on her own. Find her and protect her - she's so small and may be afraid. I thought I might be ready to make your quilt by now, but I'm not so sure. Your bowls are still on the counter - that's as far as they've gone, and oh, the sympathy cards....so many! You were loved by all, that's for sure! I still hear your collar clinking on the tile floor, but not as often now. I tell myself that means you're finding your way and making many great friends in Rainbows Bridge. Please be happy, and know that I will find you when it's time.
