The Death of a Friend
by Bethany Lawton.........................................
The vet stepped away,
"Let me check to make sure she won't take a breath..."
"She won't, she's gone...my baby's gone."
She was holding her in the car,
With a hand intwined in the dogs hair.
It let go at just the right time.
Letting the woman in the front seat grieve.
When they arrived home,
The dog was buried,
A statue of a puppy was placed as the head stone,
Purple flowers planted around it.
The owner of the hand hadn't cried but once.
And now as she sat staring at the puppy statue,
She got the most sickening feeling.
When she woke in the moring,
Taylor wouldn't be there.
When she got home from school,
There wouldn't be a dog barking at her,
Not that one that jumped with every bark.
She was gone,
Made once more a puppy with good teeth.
Her nose twitched as she smelled the ground,
Her tail wagged as she smelled other pets.
And the girl relized something very important,
Taylor was gone, pyshically,
But she'd always remained in her heart.
Until we meet again, my sunshine...
