Lilah Bean
by Kathy Aguirre
Delilah was a ten year old boxer and made the biggest impact on my heart and life. It was fate that I found lilah in a pet store which had been closed for a week because the the owner was sitting in jail on rape and tax evasion charges. I had gotten up early that morning which was quite unusual for me since I was twenty-four and not much concerned about the early morning light. I decided to have breakfast at my mother's and was reading the newspaper when I found the article, "MUST CLOSE STORE IMMEDIATELY. ALL LIVE ANIMALS MUST BE SOLD TODAY!" I immediately called my friend and we were down at the store in a flash. When I walked in, there was lilah with here brother Samson. They were the only two dogs left in the store. I had been looking for a male so Samson was to go home with me. My friend looked at me and said, "If you take only him and not her...I will never speak to you again"! So they both came home with me. I am so grateful that I had listened to my friend because Lilah was the biggest sweetheart in the world. All the kids immediately gravitated to her and asked to take her home. She always had a way of being so very gentle but still able to stand her ground with her brother. I MISS YOU SOOO VERY MUCH! I can't stand waking up in the morning and not seeing you there. When you died Saturday morning, I couldn't believe it had happened. You were just eating and walking around the night before. You just went to bed and never woke up. Did you try to wake me up and I ignored you? Please forgive me if I let you down. Me and your daddy, Samson and Spot miss you horribly. We don't know what to do without you. I will try to carry on for your brother and son but please wait for me with open arms when I get there baby girl! Your body is burried in the back yard because I need a place to visit with you and know you are close by. Watch over us and be patient. We will all be together very soon. Love and kisses...Your mommy.
