Ch. 1
"There she goes again," said Rachelle to her friends, Christa
and Katie. "Yea," said Christa. "She is such a snob!"
Why they didn't like Emma Jacobson, I don't know. She was beauti-
ful, athletic, social, friendly, and had an adorable boyfriend named
Johnny.
She also lived in a huge house in the country, had horses she rides,
dogs, cats, and other farm animals. She had a big room, a phone, TV,
VCR, and she had alot of friends.
"Well I think she's ok," said Katie. "Well, you aren't our friend then,"
said Rachelle, and and she and Christa walked away.
Katie just stood there, and finally she saw Emma walking towards her.
She turned to walk away ,but before she could leave, Emma touched her
hand and said, "I saw what happened. You didn't have to do it." Katie
said, "Yes I did. I really do like you." "Thank you!" said Emma. "Would
You like to come to my house? "Ok," said Katie.
So Emma and Katie went to the school parking lot and found Emma-
-s car, which was a new, blue Volkswagon. Then, they drove to Emma's
house and stepped out of the car.
"How about we go inside before we go out to ride the horses, and
get something to drink, "suggested Emma. "ok," said Katie.
So they went inside and walked through the living room into the kit-
chen. Emma got their drinks fixed and then after they got their drinks
they went up to Emma's room and sat down on her bed.
Emma and Katie talked for a while, and finally they finished their drinks.
When Emma and Katie finished their drinks they went outside
and they went to the back yard and sat in the swings.
They sat for a while in silence and finally Emma asked, "Whats on your
mind?" "Nothin," said Katie. "Yes, there is," said Emma. "Tell me, please.
I can keep a secret! "Ok, said Katie, and she told Emma about how her
brother had recently moved out.
Ch. 2
"Do you want to ride Dancer, Lady, or Princess? asked Emma. "I will have...umm...Dancer" Katie said. "Ok," said Emma. "I will take Princess then."
Dancer was a 4 year old Thoroughbred, Lady was an 8 year old Appaloosa,
and Princess was a 5 year old Palomino.
So Emma and Katie saddeled up the horses and rode them out into the past-
ure. While they rode they talked. As they rode they talked. They immediately were
good friends.
They wrode for a while and finally started to go in.
As they rode in, the sun began to set. "Wow," said Emma. "It is so beautiful."
"yea," exclaimed Katie. They stopped and watched for a while and as the sun
fell behind the hills and cast marvelous colors everywhere, they rode into the
stable and unsaddled, curried, and brushed the horses.
Then they unsaddled the horses and Emma took Katie home.
. Ch. 3
"There they go again," said Rachelle. "Yea," agreed Christa. Just then Emma and Katie walked over. Rachelle and Christa turned and pretended to be talking about boys, when Emma said, "Hi." They pretended they didn't hear, so Emma said it louder. "Hi!" Rachelle turned around and said, "What do you want?" "I want to be your friend, and I would if you would just let me."
"We don't need any more friends," replied Rachelle. "Well, just think about it, ok?" said Emma. "Fine," said Rachelle, and she turned her back on them again.
Emma, not seeming upset at all, walked away from Rachelle and Christa calmly. When they were out of hearing distance of Rachelle and Christa, Katie said, "Aren't you mad?!?" "No," said Emma. "Why? How can you be so calm? I would be mad!" "I just remember that there will be other times and that God is with me." "Ok," said Katie. "You go to church, right?" asked Katie. "Yes," said Emma. "Can I go with you some time?" "Sure!" said Emma. "My youth pastor would love that!"
Then Emma walked Katie out to the car and Emma asked Katie if she wanted a ride. She said no, so they said goodbye and departed.
So Emma drove home and walked in the house.
When she walked in the house she heard the phone and it was Johnny. He invited her over for dinner the next evening.
Ch.4
"Do you want to come to my house today?" Katie asked Emma. "Sure!" said Emma. So Emma and Katie got in the Volkswagon and drove off to Katies house.
On the way they saw Rachelle and Christa walking on the sidewalk, and Emma pulled over, rolled down her window and said "Hi. Do you guys want a ride?" "No." they said, and continued walking, so Emma drove on. They finally got to Katie's house.
They walked in and they walked upstairs they plopped down on Katie's bed and talked for a while. When it seemed there was nothing left to say, they went downstairs and got a drink of water. Then they went into the living room and sat down on the couch.
Finally, when they got bored they decided to go for a walk. They walked and talked and finally went back inside and Emma got in her car and drove over to Johnny's house
She got out and walked up to the door.Before she has a chance to knock the door opened and Johnny took her hand and led her into his house.
Then Johnny shut the door and the walked into bathroom to wash their hands. I love your bathroom." Emma said dreamily. It is so homey and it smells like a warm summer breeze brushing across your face that makes you feel wonderful in the dreadful heat of summer. "I agree," said Johnny.
After they finished washing their hands, they walked into the kitchen and sat down along with all of Johnny's family. Johnny had a big family, and it included two little brothers , and three little sisters and Johnny.
After his father prayed, they all started eating.There alot of delicious food.
When they were all done eating, Emma thanked Mrs. Johnson and was excused.
Finally Emma had to go so they said goodbye and she went home.
Ch.5
Finally Wednesday came and Emma took Katie to church with her. So Emma went up to her bathroom and put on her makeup and then ran out to her car to go pick up Katie.
Finally she got to Katies house and Katie got in Emma's car. "We are going to have fun!" said Emma. "When they got there Emma went over and found Johnny, and the three of them walked around until it was 7:00 and they went into the sanctuary and sat down. Johnny had to go to a meeting at school so he left and Emma and Katie sat down by some of Emma's other friends.
"Hi," said Sara. Sara was very nice. She had blond brown hair and a clear complection. She was only one of Emma's friends though. Church started and they sang praise songs and then their youth pastor talked to them about familys and having good communication.
When church was over they walked out and Katie said, "That was fun! I would like to come every week!" "Ok," said Emma.
They talked to Emma's friends for a while and finally Emma said to everyone, "See you at school tomorrow!" and then Emma took Katie home and then drove to her own home and went to bed.
Ch. 6
At school the next day, Katie and Emma were walking out of the parking lot when they saw Rachelle and Christa standing by a locker and Emma walked over. "I don't know if you should do that," cautioned Katie. "It's ok," said Emma. "I am not going to give up so fast." "Ok," said Katie.
Emma walked over to Rachelle and said, "Hi!" cheerfully. "Why don't you give it up?" asked Rachelle impudently. "I want to be your friend" said Emma calmly."Well, maybe somday," said Rachelle boredly."But I wish you would just give up for now." "I do not give up." declared Emma. "Fine,' said Rachelle, who then turned and walked away with her head held high.
"Well, that sure went great." exclaimed Katie sarcasticly. "I'm not giving up yet," declared Emma firmly. "Well, I wish you my luck!" said Katie.
"Do you want to come to my house?" asked Emma. "Ok," said Katie.
Then they got in Emma's car and drove to Emma's house. They were greeted by Ashlyn and then they went up to Emma's room.
They got out the game 'Life' and started playing. "This is fun," said Katie."Yep," said Emma. Finally they finished playing the game and decided to go watch T.V. They watched for a while and finally Katie had to go home, so Emma drove her home and then came back home and went to bed.
Ch. 7
Day after day Emma tried to make friends with Rachelle and Christa and day after day she was rejected, but she didn't give up.
One day Katie exclaimed to her, "I don't see how you can keep trying to be their friends, even when you know you will probably just get rejected again!"
"I just remember that with God, everything is possible!!" said Emma. "Yea, you are right." said Katie, who, along with her whole family, was a Christian.
One day after school Emma was driving to see Johnny, when she saw Rachelle and Christa walking home from volleyball practice and they looked tired and worn out. Emma saw her chance and thought to herself, "I bet if I asked then to let me give them a ride, they are so tired they would have to give in!!" So Emma pulled over and asked them, "Do you guys want a ride?"
As Rachelle was about to say no, Christa, who was really tired said,"Come on Rachelle! It's not gonna hurt us to just get a ride home." "Well, ok." said Rachelle and she climbed in the front seat as Christa sat in the back.
They drove around and finally katie pursuaded them to go to her house and they all became friends. Then she took them home.
At school the next day Emma met with Katie in the hall and told her all that had happened and Katie was so happy!!! She said to Emma, "You were right! With God, all things are possible!!"
After a while of them being all friends, Emma asked Rachelle and Christa, "Would you like to come to youth group with me?" "Sure!" they replied
So when Wednesday finally came, Emma picked up Katie, Christa, and Rachelle and they all went to youth group together, and they all loved it.
After a few months like this, Christa, Rachelle and Katie were all baptized and their familys' were also becoming Christians. "I am glad for all you've done," said Katie to Emma one day." "It needed doing." replied Emma.
Ch. 8
They were all very happy. The four of them were the best of friends.
After school one day Katie walked home, and Emma decided to stay in the school library and finish a 6 page story for English.
When she finished she decided to go to Johnnys house. She did and they watched a movie.
Finally at 5:00 Emma decided to go over to Katie's house for a while and then come back and get her car. So, Johnny hugged Emma goodbye and said, "I have a bad feeling..Maybe you should just drive." "I am ok." said Emma. So Johnny, still felling that something bad was going to happen, hugged Emma again, and then said, "I love you!". "I love you too!" said Emma. And then she left.
Emma was walking on the right side of the road, walking right past Katies window that she was standing in, when a drunk driver came dangerously careening around the corner from behind. Emma turned around, as if in slow motion, and saw the car, and Katies saw terror in Emma's eyes...a terror that Katie would never forget, and Emma was not fast enough to move fast enough and as the car hit her she flew five feet through the air.
Katie started screaming and crying both at the same time. She called 911 and she and her mom and dad ran out. Her father felt her heart to see if she was still alive and as he looked up, Katie saw it in his eyes. Emma was dead.
Katie ran crying into her room. Her best friend was dead! Then she looked hastily on her bed and she saw a small piece of paper and it said 'To Katie', 'From Emma'. Katie was awed. It had not been there before she went outside! She fingered the note delicately and slowly, as if in slow motion, and with tears streamng down her face, she opened it and read,
"I did my part. I'll see you in heaven."
And Katie cried. She cried for Emma and she cried for all that Emma did.
