Welcome to Toby's Rainbow Bridge Memorial Residency
Memories of Toby
Toby was a fuzzy little fur ball when we first saw him. He moved into our home with five cats and fit right in. I am a wimp about using a crate so did not use one. From the first day he slept with me and did so until the day he died. I took him with me to my retail store and we house trained him there. He learned very fast. He was a strange looking little dog. A corgi body with short legs that turned outward. Curly hair with brown eyebrows and feet. At six months he started to loose his body hair. Vet did tests and consulted with university specialists. Determined it was male patterned baldness. In later years some of the hair grew back but only a little. Strangers used to stop me to ask about his breed or his strange hair cut. He loved toys and chewed them but never destroyed them. His favorite was an old Christmas necktie that he pulled from a laundry basket. He would rub it between his teeth and drag it all over the house. He did that same teeth rubbing manuver with sheets on the bed. He was my constant companion, following me from room to room. He never liked strangers but loved us fiercely. He became the light of my life and enjoyed daily kisses and hugs and I love you's. I am totally lost without him. He suddenly became ill at the age of 9 while we we at the vet for a nail trim. The vet worked for several hours to try and save him but he passed around 9:30 pm. We have concluded from X-rays showing an enlarged heart that it was most likely dilated cardiomyopathy. We we able to say goodbye and are waiting for his cremated remains. I am not a mother to human children. Toby was my child in every way possible except that I did not give birth to him. I am absolutely devastated. I know that healing will come. As a woman of faith, I trust God to bring me through this, but this is a sorrow I have never known before. He brought us so much joy and unconditional love. I hope we will meet again in heaven. Goodbye, my love. |
