MY DOG CHASES SUNBEAMS FOR ME.
I'M TOO CLUMSY TO DO IT.

I named my dog Sunny, short for Sunshine.
I had hoped she'd follow her namesake,
Catching Rays of sun like thrown chew toys,
Biting down on them until they explode,
Her jaws a home for summery multitudes.
She'd hand over whatever cosmic dapples remain
And I'd clutch solar flares between my fingers,
Recklessly fling them toward the sky,
Creating new constellations out of sunlight
That illuminate a path back to you,
To her.

I named my dog Guiding Star,
In hopes she'll find warmth
Wherever she lands.
