| When I first brought home Seven, he had a brother Nine. Seven tolerated sharing a home, exercise wheel, and food with nine (who was likely blind or low vision). When Nine got sick and crossed the rainbow bridge, Seven looked sad but was resilient, making friends with his giant hamster parents. Mom gave Seven some cheese, not realizing hamsters aren't supposed to have anything with salt. Seven did just about anything for cheese, but if he knew he would get it anyway, Seven would bite the bars until mommy caved. He tried various types of cheese, but Seven really loved cheddar. He learned a few tricks, entering mommy's hand, learning sniff sniff instead of biting, and in his later years, hamster high five, where he put his paws in mommy's hand. Mommy wasn't always good at training, scaring Seven by saying a firm NO! where Seven put his ears back and hid. On Seven's last day he begged mom for a high five, got a large piece of cheese, and curled up under some tissues. |
