My beloved Sebastian passed away yesterday. He was 14 years, 1 month and 2 days. I found him--or he found me--in the Tipton, Iowa animal shelter when he was 10 weeks old. He would not let me leave without him. Throughout the years, he proved to be a true Buddha. He would catch squirrels and mice and then let them go. At dog parks, he acted as sheriff and greeter. If other dogs got into a scuffle, he would settle it peacefully. When we lived in southern Louisiana, he worked as a therapy dog in nursing homes. People who had no hope and had not responded in days would react to his presence. He loved everybody and everyone. As one friend said, "He was a comedian and a cop." He was a gentleman and had a great heart. His personality was so that he could have united countries. He certainly united a few people in his lifetime. May he join his good friends, Ella and Grrretta who passed before him, in his new life. We miss him greatly.
