Memories of Samson
Samson entered our lives and our hearts when he was 6 weeks old, a tiny, shivering little fellow who could fit in the palm of my hand. That first night, he grabbed the edge of a polartec throw and dragged it across the room. We decided he was the world's strongest puppy and named him Samson. He stunk that first night, earning the nickname "stinky-boy". He was a little buster who loved to sleep with his little "pound puppy" friend and play tug of war with his rope. He disembowled countless stuffed hedgehogs and ran the length of our basement a million times playing fetch. He loved to play "protect the porch" with Sara (who taught him 'no bite') and race around with Jake (who walked him countless miles, and taught him to love a good bath). He was an untrained "therapy" dog for John and his best friend and companion. He was my buddy and Abby's playmate (who entered his life when he was 7). Even though he was miserable much of his life with severe skin allergies, he was always ready for a cuddle and a bil-jac treat. From his "flippy-feet" walk to his floppy ears, he was a fierce protector of his family and had no idea he was a "little" dog. He had to pass over the bridge too early because of a rare tumor, but loved us all until the very end, even as he wagged his stub of a tail one last time and went to sleep in our laps. Even though our hearts are breaking, we know he is chasing cats out of his yard and enjoying a good wallow on his couch. He is sorely missed.
5/9/2012 - Samson, I hope you found your "daddy" when he passed over the bridge last March. Abby and I miss you boys so much. I told John to go find you as he was passing and to give you a good scratch from me. It has been so hard without both of you here to help me and sometimes I really don't know how I'm going to survive this. But it gives a small comfort to know that the 2 of you are together again. Samson, I'm counting on you to keep daddy calm and safe until I join you. ILY, Mom
