In the early hours of Monday October 5, 2026, Richard crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. It was sudden, completely unexpected, and traumatic. He was harboring a secret: an enlarged heart which lead to congestive heart failure, and a blood clot that traveled to his hind legs. He was only three years old. I can't even begin to describe the feeling of being chosen by such a loving, goofy, and stalkerish feline. He was my self-proclaimed emotional support animal with so much love to give. He was my companion and kept me company when no one was home. He cuddled with me like a human baby and tried to suffocate me with his chest plops. He also paid me extra attention during my surgery recoveries and AS flares. He stalked me through the house and cried for me at the windows if I walked outside. He also accompanied me in the shower--swatting at the water, wanting to drink it like he was never given any water. We were inseparable. He's everywhere I look. I find myself feeling silly grieving so fiercely over a cat until I remember he was a member of our family and my companion. It feels as if a piece of my heart has been torn from my chest. His favorite chair now sits empty, his food bowl also empty, the brand new container of treats I bought from Chewy sits on my porch because I can't bear to open the box it sits in, and my bed is colder without his cuddles. His heart was definitely big--big enough to make me feel like I was his whole world. |
