Memories of Rheinhardt Schultz
Abandoned at a park in New York. Taken into Animal Care & Control on 07/10/23 at 10:35 AM. Estimated to be 7 years old at the time. Named "Grandpa"...later changed to "Graham"...dubbed "behavioral condition yellow"/New Hope Only. How ironic that you were the gentlest of all souls...I never heard a growl or experienced any type of behavioral issue with you. You showed only acceptance, love and gentleness all your life with me...from the moment we met you and adopted you on Saturday 09/20/23 at the Barktoberfest Event at Turtleback Zoo in West Orange, NJ sponsored by RawHide Rescue. You were my little man. I know you knew that...you could not see or hear very well...but you knew your mommy for sure by my scent---and I will never forget how you cuddled into me for hugs or the gentle (but very cheap) :) kisses you gave me.

Our time with you was much too short...just 2 years...it's never long enough.

This happened so fast I can hardly wrap my head around it. We took you for your picture with Santa on Sunday, Dec 7th 2025. Everything seemed ok. You weren't feeling yourself on Friday, Dec 12th so I took you to the vet. Got the devastating news that you had hemangiosarcoma in the spleen and that it had spread to the liver. Told the cancer was aggressive, no cure...surgery not an option given your age and the spread to the liver. Took my breath away to get that news. Took a deep breath. Took you home. Cared for you as best as I possibly good. Joked that I was giving you "roadside assistance" when you became too weak to eat or walk very far. Tonight (01/16/26) fed you via syringe, gave you your Petinic and chinese herb...carried you outside to the front lawn one last time to pee...settled you back into your bed with a blanket. You seemed content, warm and peaceful. Went out to get a quick bite to eat. Was only gone about 35 minutes. Came home around 7:50 PM. You were gone...still warm...so you had just passed. You were peaceful...sleeping in your bed like a little baby...I am so grateful that there was no pain...but my heart is broken into a million pieces.

Thank you for our time together. Thank you for coming into my life. I will love you and miss you forever.
